Why We Exist
The Lunch Box Fund was created to help ensure no child goes without a school meal because of financial hardship.
When families face financial challenges, unpaid lunch balances can accumulate quickly. These balances can create stress for parents, administrative burdens for schools, and uncomfortable situations for students who worry about whether they will be able to eat.
No child should have to worry about lunch.
The Lunch Box Fund partners with schools to help address student meal balances and support access to school meals for children facing food insecurity.
Our goal is simple: when a child is hungry, the solution should never be embarrassment, stress, or an unpaid bill—it should be a meal.
By helping cover student lunch balances, we help ensure students can focus on learning instead of worrying about food, while also relieving pressure on families and supporting schools in maintaining stable nutrition programs.
Because every child deserves to eat.

Arkansas continues to face one of the highest rates of food insecurity in the country. That means the need for community support, school partnerships, and consistent solutions remains urgent.
Why School Meals Matter
School meals are one of the most effective ways to address child hunger and support student well-being.
For many children, breakfast and lunch at school provide the most reliable and nutritious meals they receive each day. When students have consistent access to meals, the impact reaches far beyond the cafeteria.
School meals help children:
• Reduce hunger and improve food security for families
• Improve focus, energy, and readiness to learn in the classroom
• Support healthier growth, nutrition, and overall well-being
• Encourage better attendance and fewer missed school days
• Help reduce stigma and barriers for students facing financial hardship
At The Lunch Box Fund, we believe a meal is more than food—it can be stability, dignity, and one less barrier standing between a child and their education.
School meals improve attendance and academic outcomes
Research shows school meal participation—especially breakfast access—is associated with better attendance, fewer missed school days, and improved academic outcomes.
School meals may be the most reliable daily nutrition many students receive
For children facing food insecurity, school breakfast and lunch often provide the most consistent access to balanced, nutritious meals. Federal school meals are designed to meet nutrition standards that include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and milk.
School meals reduce food insecurity
Participation in school meal programs is associated with reduced food insecurity and stronger household stability—especially for lower-income families.
Nutrition affects learning
Healthy eating is linked to improved concentration, mood, classroom readiness, and overall academic success.
